Random Snap, getting there...

After work today I put the front back together.We buffed up the bumper lenses and they now fit in well with the rest of the new lamp! I just love the combination of late and early parts on Levin's...

the bonnet still needs some adjusting.....

Instead of re-using the old philps head self tappers to hold on the early splitter I picked up 

a set of  black Anodized bike faring bolts/washers ,I reckon there a nice touch to the bumper, 

anywayz..... loads MoAr got done , I'll get some pic's up Saturday!

Levin resto Update**

I started putting the car back together today.....
New lamps in, lots of rubber seals and plastic trims back on ,
also the doors, bonnet and boot lid are back in place.
Still  a good bit to do next week....

After the paint was flicked and buffed the finish turned out Super!!!!

4 days from Japan to my door. The postage cost more than the lights but it was worth it. By the time I got the shipping confirmation email after the weekend, my Redlines were already in the country, sweet! Thank you JAA and EMS! They are in very good condition for a 23+ year old car part, just a few scratches here and there. Even came with working bulbs. I dont know is it Redlines in general (probably) or just this set but they have an odd panel for mounting the bulbs, it looks like it has space for two stop/tails like my old lights, but when you open it up it just holds one.

Weird but either way everything still works and the connectors on the wiring were the same. The single bulb look is much cleaner anyway I think. Before I installed them I gave them a good clean, and polish with Autoglym super resin polish (as I have no money left for Megiuars Plast-RX!) to buff out the light scratches, and they came out quite well for the time being.

The number plate surround also had to come out for the ultimate in whiteline delete. A quick light sanding and a clean....

 ...and a few coast of satin black rattle later it was looking good as new. For any 2 door owner out there I highly recommend satin black for the surround and that plastic trim piece along the boot lid, it really freshens up the back end.

 

Anyway I got the lights in, but my camera sucks and its too dark to take a pic of them fitted, so the car will have to wait for a random snap after wash to show off her new back end, but they look awesome and suit the Trueno body a lot better than the whiteline lights. Yahoo auctions conquered! ;)

Its been a quiet one this month, mostly a bit of money saving for parts for all 4 of the Garage Hachi fleet, but last week I was very lucky to be forwarded a link to my precious 2-door Redlines on the Yahoo Auctions. With just 20hrs left and amazingly no bids at 8000Y, (they were listed in exterior aero rather than rear lights) I placed my bid via JAA. Checked it the following morning and I had won! They do not come with the centre "garnish" but I already have one with the two small white lines. I think that is the only small difference so I will just spray the number plate surround a fresh satin black for the time being. Can't wait for them to arrive now and give them the Plast-RX treatment before fitting.

I have seen two versions of 2D Redlines on the auctions, some have just one stop/tail bulb per side, and others like these have two, so it looks like my light loom will just plug straight in and I still get the nice dual stop tail / parking light set up.

Also yesterday we attended the Prodrift 2010 Finals and there was some AE86 only parking arranged which was pretty cool. It was freezing cold and I only thought to take a picture towards the end, by this time a few other 86's and an 20v swapped E7 Corolla had already left, but it was still nice to park up with some other nice Hachii. If I find some more pics of the line up on the net I will post them up.

This is sooo close to what I want.. Just add the zenki lip, the TE37's, then remove the skirts and the ride height...

add a standard rear bumper and those ALL IMPORTANT (did I mention sooo important) redline tail lights!!

I think they belong on late Truenos but as with all Ae86 parts, they are swapped around so much, and I have seen them on jump-eye and flatnose models (lol) of all spec levels. Maybe this lovely 2-door got them because it is Apex grade, and mine got the whiteline style tail lights as she is poverty spec super light weight GT grade?

My newest shell I keep calling a Trueno was still technically a Levin until today ! Even though I have the Trueno bonnet and flared wings fitted, it still had the factory Levin headlamp bracket supports spot welded in place ,

I drilled out the five factory spot welds and offered up the Trueno headlamp bracket,all good, there's even a factory hole behind the Levin bracket to bolt the Trueno headlamp in place  (which I'll do again as I need to spray behind the drilled off brackets) which leads me to believe they are all Trueno's underneath lolz!!

  

I love lamp.

For a while now I'd been meaning to get the corner lamps working in my Trueno. On some pics I had seen they seemed to be an extra set of side lamps, and most Truenos seem to have them disconnected, but when I swapped out the bulbs for some working ones I found out that they are cool corner illuminators that come on when you indicate (with headlights on) to light up where you are going. Sarahs Levin also has this feature though her corner lamps are always on and then brighten up when she indicates. An interesting little courtesy feature from Mr.Toyota, but I thought it would be cooler to continue the orange theme from the little side lights and indicators into the corner lamps. Some amber 21w bulbs later and now I have the worlds coolest turn signals.





I have a bit of a thing for lights on cars so expect another post when I track down my sacred 2 door redlines from the motherland auctions!

My Redlines were getting cloudy and nothing did the job of keeping them clean, until I got my hand on Meguiar's Plast-RX. I spent about 15mins on each lamp today and they are looking much better already.
