***Rare Find , 4ag Filters***

A friend of mine , who works in the Toyota garage I used to work in , 

came across these rare Toyota 4age oil filters! 

These filters date back to the 80's ,are unopened and still have the plastic seal over the pre-greased O-ring!

Of coarse I couldn't turn them down so they're now in stock for our future oil changes!!!

 I just love the old Toyota packaging!!!!!!

On paper I think the GZE makes a nice street engine, and sounds great with its distinctive supercharger whine, but in my head the 20V sounds soooo good, and is a pure n/a engine! Either way it makes for a great soundtrack..

** NEW Member ** Neil's Levin - Track day project !!

Neil has his Levin over 4 years now , we met about that time on a random night out Drifting in some local spots. He's been through thick and thin with it and now after nearly two years of hibernation ,his Levin is coming back to life!!!

A snap of his Corolla back as his clean daily car.

His Levin is back out now and he has just about as many plans for it , as the rest of us on here do,

the bodywork is a little rough and ready but who cares , if it's future is going to be spent out on track!! A quick list of his spec, from The Boy himself...

"Have her about 4.5 years now I think but haven't driven it in over 2 !!!!!  Future plans include full seam welding, welded in cage, frp rear hatch/doors/wings, full respray, lexan windows and maybe headwork in the long term....

Bloggers might remember this pic below of Neil's engine,  80% done before he went hibernating,

It is now fitted and is soon to be finished off.....

Just last weekend I was over putting some finishing touches to it with him,

A Quick recheck to the head to make sure all valve clearances are in spec..

He has a couple of bits to order up and We'll have his little carb'd 4age singing again!

A new oil pump, water pump and a 3.05 shim and I reckon she's ready to be Torqued and Timed !!

I have to admit , including my 2 sets of itbs , Dave's epic intake and exhaust , and Sarah's blueprinted blue-top, Neil's 4ag does sound the best when the carbs are chartering !!

Anyway, from now on he'll keep you updated,

* Trip to the breakers....

Did a spot of shopping at my friendly, local, hachi Treasure yard this evening.
I  went to pick up a fuel guage sender but came away with a bit more.
Tidy set of jblood skirts were there waiting on me,
I think Ima put these on Sarah's Levin , in white....

Picked up a couple of  exhausts for the Levin ,I have a few to play around with now , I'll mix and match and come up with something that fits and sounds well on a budget,
the first is a discontinued 5Zigen .....

and the the other minto full cat back system is a jasma aproved ,etching k's system.

I couldn't turn down, this rare flip grill,I want to try it on for size, after a clean up.......

although, I'll need to change that badge to twincam20 !!

I was lucky enough to get two rare discontinued ssr mesh cap's,

 just two moar needed now,

I also picked up some work , 

this poor little 4ag lost a piston while out on track!!

get'er done

I got some of the heavy work done on my Trueno last weekend. The engine is sitting nicely on TRD engine mounts and the stock gearbag is also attached.

I also got the rad, fan and clutch master cylinder fitted
and lay down the loom for the standalone Omex ecu. I kept all the wire's tidy and located the waisted spark coil inside the car

I got a standard t50 from jdm jap parts and Ive been working on tidying up my 16v all week.

I've the plug leads hidden away and a new plug lead cover fitted with shiny hex head bolts, I'm hoping to keep the neath and tidy look going threw out the engine bay and keep wire's etc to a minimum.




All shined up with lots of new bolts and washers and ready for some TRD engine mounting fun this weekend!!!

I've had this little beauty for a while now, an Apexi Power FC ECU, with Hand Commander. It came at a price I just could not refuse when I was buying the car so I snapped it up for the future project. This replaces the factory ECU and will allow full fuel and ignition mapping which is a must for any serious engine tuning. Apexi never made the Power FC for the AE86 specifically, but they did make them for the transversely mounted 4ag's that live in FWD AE92 Corollas. Luckily, aftermarket companies such as AP Engineering in this case reworked the Power FC for the AE86 and thanks to their neat wiring harness this unit is completely plug and play. No messy wiring,and factory connectors, sensors, and mounting positions are all the same. Speaking of sensors, the Power FC uses the factory MAP sensor, which doesn't suit an ITB application so well but does suit my full ARC intake setup (more on that later!) or even turbo setups perfectly.


The hand commander is a neat little unit that allows you to keep an eye on most engine parameters as well as make a few changes in car such as idle speed and rev limit. (2500rpm is funny to hear!) I have read that it is possible to adjust the maps with it, however full mapping is best done with the correct software via laptop on a rolling road, and I already have my two 52mm gauges telling me everything else I need to know, so this commander will not be on display on the dash.




The one thing that I will have to change to accommodate the new ECU is the injectors however, as the big port 16v uses low resistance 3-4 Ohm injectors, but the small port (ala AE92) 16v uses higher resistance injectors (10-12Ohm approx I think). I found this out when I plugged in the PFC for a test run, the car started, idled and ran fine, but on my first journey up towards the redline the 10amp injector fuse blew. Better the fuse melting than the PFC! Either way, I soon sourced the correct high resistance small port injectors from ebay, and when the new HKS head that Kev is kindly working on is installed, we will put in the new injectors, ECU, and over to Westward Eng. for a remap session on the dyno. Can't wait :)

Well, this is my baby, built at the start of '08 and dyno'd at 180 hp, its still a work in progress, I'm greedy to see how much more power is left to pull out of of it....

Bottom end: 4age 16v (red top) as a base engine.
toda .25 overbore high comp pistons
lightened and balanced crank and rods,
arp up-rated big end ,main and flywheel bolts
acl race bearings,
orc lightened flywheel (+clutch)
hks oil pump shim kit

Head: small port head with stage 4, full race, port and swirl work, uprated valve guides etc
Ferrera ( Atlantic spec) oversized inlet and exhaust valves,
Toda 288 (8.5) and 272 (7.9) cams with
Toda valve springs, cam gears and .8 high comp head gasket..
ae101 throttle bodies
techno-toy-tuning intake manifold and velocity stacks.

its running on an omex 600 standalone ecu which I wired up to it, more spec will be added to this engine soon as well as further mapping so expect more updates on its progress soon!!!!!!!!!

On Bike Carbs

this lump is a small port 4age that I recently rebuild

its running ss works bike carb kit, the carbs are flatside's kehin off an old race bike, and they make some noise,

the rest of the spec includes

je pistons(81mm)

toda 304 8.5mm cams with uprated springs and adj cam gears,

it's also held together thanks to arp bolts and is running on acl bearings,

its running a standard crank and rods,

its sitting up and hasn't been started since it was rebuilt, more on this when its fitted, hopefully with some figure's from the RR......
